Hackler has directed musicals, classics and world premieres for playwrights Meg Miroshnick and Gordon Dahlquist among others.  In Dallas, his work has been seen at Theatre Three, Trinity Shakespeare Festival, Undermain Theater and Second Thought Theater. Most recently, he directed a production of Lorca’s Blood Wedding at LaSalle College of the Arts in Singapore.

His production of St Nicholas by Conor McPherson was named one of the ten best productions of 2020 by the Wall Street Journal and in the same paper, critic Terry Teachout called his 2021 film of Hedda Gabler “…one of the best productions of the play I’ve ever seen.”
